OpenAI Exec Tibo Sottiaux on the Three AI Trends Markets Are Missing

By AI123

In an interview following OpenAI DevDay, Tibo Sottiaux, the executive leading ChatGPT, Codex, and the new personal agent platform Dots, said that markets are not fully pricing in the second-order effects of AI evolution.

Sottiaux outlined three trends he believes are underappreciated: agents will handle the vast majority of internet operations; models will become dramatically cheaper and faster; and all modalities will merge seamlessly. He suggested that if AI improves by roughly 10x within a year, product design would shift fundamentally.

He also revealed that ChatGPT’s Chat and Work modes will be unified, and Dots capabilities will eventually be integrated directly into ChatGPT, reaching around 1.2 billion users. In addition, 16 partners have adopted “Sign in with ChatGPT,” and OpenAI is introducing “shared economics” with revenue sharing for popular and highly used plugins, based on retention and quality metrics.

On safety, Sottiaux described a two-track compute approach: one portion of compute runs the main system, while another large portion is dedicated to monitoring and preventing risky actions. He confirmed that OpenAI has an internal Astra 6.1 model but chose not to release it, expressing pride in that decision.

He also mentioned that Ahmed Ibrahim, a newcomer who joined OpenAI as a fresh graduate, now oversees all computing resources and application deployment for the company.
