Lambda raises up to $4B at $14.5B pre-money valuation ahead of planned 2027 IPO

Cloud provider Lambda is raising up to $4 billion at a $14.5 billion pre-money valuation, in what could be its final private funding round before a planned IPO in 2027. The round is led by Coatue Management and Blackstone.

According to an investor letter reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, Lambda's order backlog grew from $15 billion in June to $50 billion in September. Much of that increase is tied to a $35 billion commitment from Anthropic, which signed a deal with Lambda in late August. That concentration raises questions about how much Lambda's valuation depends on one customer's ability to pay, though the ongoing scarcity of reliable GPU capacity continues to attract investor bets on companies with large contracts from major AI labs.

For neoclouds like Lambda, the challenge is less about demand and more about the cost of meeting it. Data center buildouts are largely funded by debt, and Lambda secured an additional $1 billion in debt financing last week. Raising more now could help set the tone for its IPO pricing and give it access to capital before public market scrutiny intensifies.

Lambda had reportedly been expected to go public in 2026 but pushed back its timeline amid market uncertainty. If it does IPO, it would join other Nvidia-backed neoclouds such as CoreWeave and Nebius. British neocloud Nscale filed for an IPO in September 2026 and is expected to begin trading soon. Lambda, Coatue and Blackstone did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
