Personal AI assistant Tab exits stealth with $300M valuation

By AI123

Tab, a personal AI assistant startup, announced on October 6 that it has officially emerged from stealth with a valuation of approximately $300 million. Founded earlier this year by Brennan Erbz, Stafford Schlitt and Ammar Amdani, the company counts SV Angel, Valar Ventures and American Spirit among its investors. Tab declined to disclose the exact amount raised in the round.

Co-founder Ammar Amdani said users can text the assistant via iMessage or WhatsApp to handle everyday tasks such as ordering groceries, booking reservations, shopping and paying bills. Tab operates with its own phone number, computer and wallet, allowing it to carry out actions directly rather than merely offering instructions.

Amdani said the company is currently growing mainly through word of mouth and plans to launch a new product soon. He acknowledged that the consumer AI space has become competitive, with everyone racing to make AI more capable, but argued that the eventual winners will not necessarily be those with the best demos. The harder question, he said, is whether users will trust the assistant enough to let it into their lives. Tab says user data is never used to train AI, card information is stored in a vault the company itself cannot access, and irreversible actions require explicit user consent.
