Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5, cutting API prices by up to 90%

By AI123

Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on Oct. 8, with input pricing of $0.10 per million tokens and output pricing of $0.50 per million tokens for requests below 100,000 tokens. That represents a 90% reduction from Haiku 4.5 and matches OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna. For requests above 100,000 tokens, prices are $0.50 per million input tokens and $2.50 per million output tokens, a 50% reduction.

Anthropic estimates typical workloads will cost about 75% less than Haiku 4.5 when accounting for request sizes and an updated tokenizer. The model is positioned as a supporting worker for Opus and Sonnet, handling tasks such as document summarization, information classification, database queries and smaller assignments for more capable agents. Haiku 5.5 also introduces adjustable effort levels, with medium as the default.

Separately, Anthropic cut Sonnet 5.5 cache-read pricing from $0.20 to $0.10 per million tokens. Monthly API credits are rolling out this week: $100 for Max 5x subscribers, $200 for Max 20x subscribers and up to $500 shared across a Team subscription. The model is available through Anthropic's platform, AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure with the API identifier claude-haiku-5-5.
