OpenAI Rolls Out Ultrafast Mode for GPT-6.1 Sol, Claiming Up to 8x Speed

OpenAI announced on October 9, 2026 that its new Ultrafast mode for GPT-6.1 Sol is rolling out today across the API, Codex, and ChatGPT Work. The company says the mode delivers near-Astra-level intelligence at speeds up to 8 times faster than Sol Standard.

OpenAI, the AI research and deployment company behind the GPT series, introduced the mode to help developers build more responsively. The Ultrafast mode is also now available on OpenRouter.
