UK Proposes Mandatory Safety Reports and Monitoring for Frontier AI Firms

On October 12, reports said the UK government is drawing up plans to require frontier AI companies to submit mandatory safety reports and undergo monitoring. UK AI minister Kanishka Narayan said companies developing increasingly powerful AI models capable of autonomous task execution must do more to address risks and strengthen safety safeguards. Narayan also warned that the government is prepared to introduce legislation to tighten regulation of rapidly developing AI technologies.
