Google brings Gemini-powered scam detection to Android Messages

By AI123

Google has announced a set of new scam and privacy protection features for Android, including an opt-in Scam Detection tool in its Messages app. Powered by Google's advanced Gemini models, the feature evaluates the sender's intent and alerts users to potentially fraudulent messages.

Messages are processed in Private AI Compute, an encrypted and secure environment that Google says is inaccessible even to the company itself. Gemini Nano will also analyze links on-device in Messages to help users avoid unsafe websites before tapping them.

The features will roll out in the coming weeks, initially supporting devices such as Google Pixel 10+, Samsung Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold 8. Google has also expanded Scam Detection in chat notifications on Pixel devices and is working with Honor, Motorola, OPPO, OnePlus, realme, vivo and Xiaomi to bring the feature to more devices later this year.

In addition, Google will roll out screen-sharing privacy protection later this month for devices running Android 15 and newer, hiding passwords, banking information and credit card security codes by default. In early December, call forwarding protection will arrive on Pixel and other select devices to block apps from secretly enabling call forwarding.
