Nvidia to Roll Out New DLSS 5 Neural Rendering Model on Oct 16
Nvidia announced on Tuesday that it will push a new 3D-guided neural rendering model for DLSS 5 later this week, with the update scheduled for October 16 on RTX 50-series GPUs and RTX Spark laptops. The company says the new model doubles rendering performance while reducing model size by 24 percent to roughly 118 million parameters, and cuts 4K memory usage by 20 percent. GPU overhead for neural rendering drops to half of the September version’s level, and runtime speed is now 10 times faster than when the technology was first detailed in March.
DLSS 5’s 3D-guided neural rendering uses AI to enhance in-game lighting and materials, an approach Nvidia has described as a transformative moment for computer graphics. The latest iteration aims to deliver similar visual quality while easing the AI workload on consumer GPUs.
In NBA 2K27, currently the only title with DLSS 5 support, Nvidia cited frame rates jumping from around 240 fps to about 300 fps at 4K on an RTX 5080, with the company claiming an improvement of up to 1.4x. Nvidia also said DLSS 5 will arrive in Hogwarts Legacy on November 5 and in the Chinese title Where Winds Meet in late November. In addition, DLSS 5 is being added to RTX Remix, giving modders new tools to remaster classic games, with a Fallout 4 mod test already demonstrating the effect.
