Nvidia Adds DLSS 5 to RTX Remix for Classic Game Remastering

By AI123

Nvidia announced on Oct. 14 that it will add DLSS 5 to RTX Remix, giving modders more options and tools to remaster classic games. The company said the update is intended to help older titles gain a new lease of life.

In a Fallout 4 mod development test, enabling DLSS 5 produced more convincing reflections and lighting response on a soldier's helmet, as well as richer clothing layering and material detail. Nvidia's comparison images showed more noticeable improvements in scene lighting and material detail than in character appearance.

DLSS 5, introduced earlier this year, uses 3D-guided neural rendering with AI to add realistic lighting and materials to game scenes. Jensen Huang described the technology as a "GPT moment" for graphics. In the latest update, the 3D-guided neural rendering model is twice as fast, 24% smaller at about 118 million parameters, and uses 20% less memory at 4K. Compared with the version announced in March, the model now runs 10 times faster. The update rolls out Oct. 16 for RTX 50-series GPUs and RTX Spark laptops.

Beyond RTX Remix, DLSS 5 will arrive in Hogwarts Legacy on Nov. 5 and in Chinese title Where Winds Meet in late November.
