Figma launches Figma Specs at first Config India to align AI agents with design systems

By AI123

At its first Config event in India, Figma introduced Figma Specs, a Markdown-based editor designed to define a company's design language and serve as a reference for teams and AI agents. The document can exist as a standalone file or within the canvas, and users can reference other Figma elements such as canvas items, embed FigJam diagrams, code layers, and designs. Teams can also bring in design libraries, code libraries, and guidelines to manage design system context, with agents able to refer to this centralized system to follow brand rules.

Figma also moved its code layers feature from private beta to public beta. The feature, first announced in June 2026 in private beta, adds coding to designs on canvas for more interactive prototypes. In public beta, users can ask an agent to turn a design into code or modify part of the code to iterate on a prototype. Additionally, Figma said it now supports over 20 new tools through its MCP, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot, and Indian AI startup Sarvam.

The company also integrated Payload, the open-source headless CMS it acquired in 2025, with Figma Make for generating dynamic websites and managing content directly. Figma said Payload downloads have increased sixfold in the last 12 months. Figma opened its first office in India in late 2025, and noted that the country is its biggest user market outside the United States, with the platform used by 40% of India's top 100 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
