Anthropic Posts $16.8B Quarterly Revenue, Achieves First Adjusted Profit
Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude large language models, has shown potential investors its third-quarter 2026 operating figures. Revenue was about $16.8 billion for the quarter, up roughly 45% quarter over quarter from $11.6 billion in the second quarter and compared with $4.7 billion in the first quarter, according to Reuters. The company also said it achieved its first adjusted profit.
Revenue added from Q2 to Q3 was about $5.2 billion, though the pace of growth is easing from the previous high base. Anthropic did not specify the exact adjustments behind its adjusted-profit figure; such a metric is not necessarily equal to GAAP net income or positive free cash flow, and companies may exclude one-off or non-cash items. More detail is expected in fuller disclosures.
The results show that generative AI can generate large-scale revenue in a short period. However, AI providers still face long-term infrastructure commitments: delivering model services requires ongoing spending on chips, electricity, storage and networking, and multi-year compute contracts can weigh on future cash outflow. Whether revenue can be converted into sustained net income and free cash flow will require further data.
