Google launches Universal Cart in the US, integrating Gemini-powered shopping across retailers
Google said on Thursday that Universal Cart, a tool that lets users collect and track products across Google Search and the Gemini app, is now available to users in the United States. The feature was first previewed at Google I/O in May.
Universal Cart aggregates items from multiple retailers into a central hub, preserving saved items and shopping progress for later visits. It can also send notifications when a saved product drops in price or when an out-of-stock item becomes available again.
During checkout, the tool can factor in credit card perks to assist with payment choices and surface relevant promo codes. Checkout is supported by Google's Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard introduced earlier this year that is designed to help AI agents and retailers collaborate across the shopping journey.
The launch is part of Google's broader push into AI-powered shopping, which also includes conversational product discovery in Search's AI Mode and the 'Let Google Call' tool that uses an AI agent to check in-store stock availability.
