Germany and Nvidia Finalize Multi-Hundred-Million-Euro AI Cooperation Plan

By AI123

The German federal government is finalizing an artificial intelligence cooperation plan with Nvidia, involving an investment of hundreds of millions of euros to procure computing resources and train industrial foundation models. According to informed sources, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang are scheduled to meet in Berlin on October 19, 2026, followed by the official announcement of the partnership.

The plan focuses on two main areas: laying the groundwork for the deployment of "physical AI," a technology crucial for training robots and autonomous vehicles, and developing high-performance industrial AI models with international competitiveness. Nvidia will send engineers and provide chip support. Around a dozen German companies are expected to participate, including Siemens, Audi (part of Volkswagen Group), and AI startup Black Forest Labs.

The project will build on Germany's existing AI infrastructure. Deutsche Telekom and Nvidia have previously built an industrial AI cloud platform in Munich, which went into operation in February 2026, equipped with about 10,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, delivering 0.5 exaFLOPS of computing power, with a total investment of around 1 billion euros. Deutsche Telekom positions it as "sovereign AI" infrastructure, emphasizing that data remains within Germany.
