ICAIS 2026 Opens in Beijing with Three New AI Initiatives
The second International Conference of Artificial Intelligence Scientists (ICAIS 2026) took place in Beijing from October 17 to 19, under the theme "Back to the Origin of AI, Expanding Scientific Exploration." The event brought together Nobel laureates, Turing Award winners, and academicians from China and abroad, along with young scholars and student representatives, to discuss how AI can reshape scientific research paradigms.
Liu Tieyan, president of Beijing Zhongguancun College and chairman of the Zhongguancun AI Research Institute, announced three core action plans: establishing a joint research center on major global scientific questions, providing young talents with earlier access to scientific exploration and direct dialogue with Nobel and Turing laureates, and building an international AI scientists community to form an open, cross-border collaboration network.
The international AI scientists community was officially launched on October 17. Initiated by AI-native young researchers, the community aims to connect scientific exploration, youth development, industrial practice, and global exchange, set against the 70th anniversary of the Dartmouth Conference. In his keynote speech, Michael Levitt, the 2013 Nobel laureate in chemistry, said AI does not replace exploration but multiplies it, making exploration faster, broader, and cheaper.
