Apple Acquires AI Audio Editing Startup Samplab
Apple has acquired Samplab, an AI audio editing company based in Zurich, Switzerland, according to a report from AppleInsider. The deal involves Apple acquiring part of Samplab's assets and offering jobs to some of its employees.
Samplab was founded in 2020 in Zurich by Manuel Fritsche and Gian-Marco Hutter. The company is small, with reportedly no more than 10 employees; LinkedIn data suggests only the two founders may still be on staff. Samplab previously described itself as a music production company for the AI era. Before shutting down, its website highlighted features such as modifying any note in audio, identifying and editing chords, and refined track separation.
Apple has offered AI-based track separation in Logic Pro since 2024, allowing users to split vocals, guitar, drums and other elements into separate tracks. With the Samplab acquisition, Apple is expected to integrate the technology into Logic Pro and other creative apps, improving existing AI track separation and enabling direct editing of individual notes within chords.
