Nvidia CEO Unveils German Startup Investments as Germany Signs Physical AI Pact
During a dialogue with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on October 20, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said AI is not just a chat tool but will enter factories, robots and hospitals, enhancing existing professional skills and industrial expertise. Huang stressed that German companies' engineering, manufacturing and scientific knowledge are important advantages, and that AI will augment rather than replace those capabilities.
The two sides discussed combining Germany's manufacturing strengths with AI to promote adoption in automotive, mechanical engineering and small and medium-sized enterprises. Germany's federal government and Nvidia signed a joint declaration of intent to advance models for physical AI, with the goal of applying AI to real-world industrial scenarios. Merz called on SMEs to let AI use existing data and turn industrial experience into competitiveness.
On investments, Nvidia announced plans to invest in four German startups covering robotics, hospital information systems, video dubbing and satellite manufacturing. Among them, Avelios Medical develops hospital information systems that integrate AI into clinical and administrative workflows, aiming to give doctors and nurses more time for patient care.
"That knowledge belongs to you and cannot be replaced... seize this technology, it is a new tool," Huang told German companies.
