CleanYourTV Project Uses Claude Code to Strip Xiaomi TV of Ads and Bloatware
Developer Gathin T. has shared a project called CleanYourTV that uses Anthropic's Claude Code to remove ads and preinstalled apps from a Xiaomi smart TV. Gathin said he gave the AI coding tool his parents' TV model, connected to the set over Wi-Fi, disabled 25 Xiaomi software packages, and generated a new launcher that replaces the default home screen with a cleaner interface.
He later published the prompts and project code, saying that within two days of October 19, thousands of users had attempted similar modifications on their own devices.
CleanYourTV is among recent efforts by users to employ AI coding agents to clean up smart TVs. A similar project, DumbTV by developer Muzzammil Yasin Sabuwala, uses models such as DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 to reduce ads, behavioral tracking and unwanted updates.
Both projects remain under active development and may not work on every TV model. Because system components and packages vary across platforms, disabling the wrong component could break device functionality or prevent it from booting.
