Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: AI Agents Will Bring More Users to Professional Software Tools
At the GTC Berlin conference on October 21, Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang said AI will increase the number of users of software tools, and that tool companies will transform into AI and agent companies.
Huang pushed back against the idea that AI will spell the end of software and tool companies. He argued that as AI agents take on more work, software tools developed in the past will see more users. The reason, he said, is that AI still needs to call specialized tools to get real work done. He cited scientists and engineers as examples, noting that even with strong intelligence, they still need laboratories, simulators, and solvers; AI agents likewise rely on tools for experiments, simulation, and data processing.
Huang said programming is one of the earliest areas where agents are being applied, with compilers or Python environments already supporting some tasks. As agents move into more industries, the range of tools they need will expand to include computational fluid dynamics, quantum chemistry, and industrial design software.
A demonstration played during the keynote illustrated this approach. In a Dassault Systèmes demo, an AI agent adjusted a Volkswagen Golf door design for use in a Tiguan based on engineering requirements, then used design and simulation tools to test the proposal. After simulation detected vibration issues, the design agent iterated further, and an engineer reviewed and selected the final option.
According to Huang, tool companies will in the future offer both software and specialized agents optimized to use that software. He described this as an important basis for Nvidia's business expansion, repeatedly introducing its models, computing platforms, and software libraries as computing support for agents calling professional tools.
