Nvidia CEO Huang: GPUs Last 7-8 Years, Can Serve as Loan Collateral
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on Oct. 21, 2026 that the company's GPUs have a service life of seven to eight years, far exceeding the market's commonly assumed four-year depreciation cycle, making them viable as loan collateral.
In an interview with Yahoo Finance after GTC Berlin, Huang said Nvidia has guaranteed resale values of chips in some financing programs to help new cloud companies such as CoreWeave lower borrowing costs. He also confirmed that the next-generation Vera Rubin chips are expected to have a similar lifespan.
Huang introduced Nvidia's DSX Pod, a modular data-center-in-a-container approach that shifts part of the manufacturing process to the supply chain, potentially cutting deployment time from four to six months to three to four months or less.
Regarding DeepSeek's disclosed GPU inference monetization price of $38 per hour, which exceeds prevailing rental rates, Huang said strong demand is the fundamental prerequisite for resolving financing and supply issues. He cited robust demand from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, xAI, Google Gemini, DeepSeek and Moonshot AI.
Huang also said China is the only country capable of large-scale output across chip manufacturing, open-source model development and AI researcher training. He dismissed the narrative that AI eliminates jobs, citing job growth in energy, chips, construction and healthcare as evidence that AI is creating more employment.
