Anthropic to Enable Auto Mode by Default in Claude Apps

Anthropic announced on October 23, 2026 that starting next week, sessions across Claude web, desktop, and mobile apps will run in auto mode by default on Pro, Max, and Team plans. Instead of asking users to approve each step, an automated check will block risky actions, while users can switch back to manual mode at any time.

Separately, auto mode became the default permission mode in Claude Code for Pro, Max, and Team users starting August 14. Anthropic said auto mode reviews shell commands and actions with a separate classifier. In testing, it caught 89% of dangerous commands, compared with 14% for manual approval.
