Meta Acquires AI Data Analytics Platform Sundial
Meta Platforms announced on October 23 that it has acquired Sundial, an AI data analytics platform founded by two former Meta employees. The platform lets businesses use a chatbot plugin to ask natural-language questions of complex data and receive actionable insights.
Sundial was co-founded by Julie Zhuo, former vice president of product design at Meta, and Chandra Narayanan, former head of data analytics at Instagram and Sequoia Capital.
The acquisition is part of Meta's broader push into data and AI infrastructure. In July 2026, the company appointed former marketing executive Alex Schultz as its first chief data officer and created a new group called Data Analytics Tooling & Agents (DATA), responsible for descriptive analytics, experimentation, AI product improvements, and monitoring key AI systems.
Schultz said Narayanan will lead work on data analytics tooling and AI agents after Sundial joins Meta. “AI actually brings nearly unlimited demand for insights, and we want to define the future of AI analytics,” he wrote on LinkedIn.
