Thermo Fisher Q3 Revenue Up 9% to $12.14B, Opens First AI Automation Center in South Korea
Thermo Fisher Scientific reported its third-quarter results in October 2026, with revenue of $12.14 billion, up 9% year over year. GAAP operating profit reached $2.263 billion, up 17%, while adjusted operating profit grew 15% to $2.968 billion.
During the quarter, the company introduced the Orbitrap Isora mass spectrometer and the Ion 560 sequencing chip. It also opened its first AI automation innovation center in South Korea, integrating advanced analytical technologies, automation and AI to help accelerate customer innovation. Management noted that AI has been applied to its Krios 5 and Glacios 3 cryo-electron microscopes, reducing some manual setup time by about 90%.
Thermo Fisher has been expanding its AI-driven laboratory strategy. In January 2026, it announced a strategic collaboration with Nvidia to apply AI to scientific instruments and improve laboratory performance. The company also disclosed a research program with Mayo Clinic, Precure, that will integrate over one million longitudinal patient samples for multi-omics research.
The broader industry has been shifting drug R&D focus from early target discovery toward clinical development, with recent partnerships such as Oracle-AstraZeneca and Tempus AI with Moderna and Merck highlighting the trend. Analysts say the main constraint for medical AI is shifting from model capability to clinical evidence and system integration.
