Grok debuts 7-minute first episode of AI-generated 'Odyssey' series
On October 26, 2026, Grok released the first episode of its AI-generated "Odyssey" series, running seven minutes. The episode arrives three months after Elon Musk announced that Grok would produce a "historically accurate" film adaptation of Homer's epic, and marks the project's first publicly released footage. It was created in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker.
Musk had previously criticized Christopher Nolan's live-action "The Odyssey," which relied heavily on practical filmmaking, shot across six countries with thousands of cast and crew. The Nolan film became a box office success after its July 2026 release, selling out IMAX screenings for months and emerging as an awards season favorite.
In the released footage, Grok's version shows visual quality improved over Musk's recent AI-generated videos, with some shots resembling real actors sailing on an actual sea. However, critics said the film lacks artistry, inspiration, and human interest: the voiceover-heavy backstory drags on, character dialogue feels stiff, and the overall pacing provides little reason to care about anyone on screen.
Given the quality of this first episode, reviewers expressed doubt about watching another seven minutes, let alone a full feature. The release adds another entry to Musk's ongoing stream of AI-generated content.
