Musk rebuffs 20x humanoid robot DRAM demand forecast, says RAM needs will surpass 'everything else'
On October 26, Elon Musk responded on social platform X to Counterpoint Research's forecast that humanoid robot DRAM demand would surge 20-fold by 2030, calling the analysis "absurd." He said robot RAM demand will exceed everything else on Earth because robots need to operate on a physical substrate to shape atoms, suggesting the 20x projection severely underestimates the true scale.
Musk added that superintelligence compute demand will far surpass that of robots, with an estimated 100% of superintelligence computing deployed in deep space compute, extending the potential scope of storage and compute needs to space infrastructure.
Separately, Micron Technology has positioned humanoid robots as a key future driver of storage demand, grouping them with autonomous vehicles under the "physical AI devices" category. Micron management said its existing HBM and high-capacity storage products for AI servers and data centers can cover humanoid robot needs without developing new products.
Micron's fiscal 2027 first-quarter guidance projects revenue of approximately $61.5 billion and diluted EPS of about $37.84. Investors are watching whether management will update contributions from physical AI devices to these expectations, indicating how quickly the theme translates into revenue.
