Former Meta AI Leader Rohit Patel Launches Ndoc, an AI-Native Office Suite
Rohit Patel, a former Meta artificial intelligence executive who led the company's superintelligence lab, has left the company to found Ndoc, a startup building an AI-native office software suite aimed at replacing Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Patel, who spent eight years at Meta working on AI research, said Ndoc is not meant to be another AI tool layered on top of existing workflows. Instead, it seeks to address the fragmented experience of switching between Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Tableau, while frequently copying content into ChatGPT, by bringing these workflows into a unified space.
The platform integrates three core modules: Stage, for presenting key content such as slides, dashboards, simulations and mini-apps; Narrative, for presenting analysis with numbered citations, generated charts and explanations of data trends; and Model, which stores underlying datasets and Python scripts. Users can upload datasets for Ndoc to analyze and then write explanatory text based on the results.
Ndoc's longer-term ambition is to reinvent the document format. Documents can be exported as standalone .ndoc.html files that open in any browser, and Patel plans to open-source the format for other developers.
Patel is among several senior Meta executives and researchers to depart recently, including global affairs head Joel Kaplan, AI researcher Andrew Tulloch, and Emily Dalton Smith, who led workplace AI products.
