OpenAI has released textGrain, an entropy-calibrated text watermarking technology that embeds statistical signals into AI-generated text without changing the wording, enabling detection of whether content was produced by OpenAI models. The watermark will be enabled by default for ChatGPT and Codex in the EU, while global API users can choose, and the detector is restricted to approved researchers and institutions.
