This month, Murata announced it will cease production of certain MLCC products while expanding other capacity, covering specific part numbers in consumer-grade general-purpose series and automotive-grade series. Customers were informed to submit written responses by the end of 2027 and place final orders by the end of March 2028.
Masayoshi Minamikata, deputy president of Murata Manufacturing, said in a Nikkei interview that AI-server MLCC demand is expected to remain strong at least through 2028, prompting the company to evaluate capacity expansion over the next three to five years. He noted AI servers use 8-12 times more MLCCs than traditional servers, lead times have extended to 20-26 weeks, and Murata plans to raise capacity by more than 20% in fiscal 2027 while maintaining its policy of not adjusting prices with supply-demand changes.
