Shanghai Sailer Optoelectronics Launches 400G Pure-Silicon Photonic Chip for Next-Gen Optical Networks

By AI123

Shanghai Sailer Optoelectronics unveiled a single-wavelength 400G silicon photonic chip based on a pure silicon solution at the Silicon Photonics Innovation Development Forum during the 19th Pujiang Innovation Forum. The chip is designed for next-generation high-speed optical communication.

According to Gan Fu'an, founder of the company, optical communication has driven surging demand for silicon photonic chips. He noted that the penetration of optical module/LPO technology is expected to gradually rise toward 90%, NPO is likely to become an industry standard with penetration approaching 100%, and CPO represents the ultimate form of optical interconnect. The 400G pure-silicon photonic chip, he said, is a key enabler for CPO to move from the lab to commercial deployment, allowing CPO to enter hyperscale AI data centers and unleash extreme computing power.

Gan added that the window for setting technology standards is only two to three years, and industry alliances have accelerated their efforts; whoever achieves mass production first will gain a say in rule-setting and seize the lead in the AI optical interconnect market.
