China unveils electronics manufacturing plan targeting major computing power growth by 2030
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly released the 15th Five-Year Plan for the electronic information manufacturing industry on Sept. 15, setting 2030 targets that include a significant increase in computing power supply, revenue of enterprises above designated size exceeding 30 trillion yuan, R&D investment intensity reaching 3.5%, and a notable rise in the adoption rate of new-generation intelligent terminals.
The plan outlines 17 key tasks in four areas: consolidating the industrial foundation, enhancing the competitiveness of electronic products and systems, fostering new growth areas, and improving governance. Specific measures include advancing integrated circuit development, upgrading electronic components and materials, accelerating smart sensor innovation, building an advanced computing ecosystem, and strengthening the hardware foundation for artificial intelligence.
According to the plan, China's electronic information manufacturing industry has ranked first among 41 industrial sectors in operating revenue for 13 consecutive years. By 2030, the industry is expected to play a pivotal role in the global industrial landscape, with significantly improved industrial chain security and the emergence of world-class enterprises in integrated circuits, advanced computing, consumer electronics, basic electronics, and energy electronics.
