OpenAI to Retire GPT-5.5 From ChatGPT and Codex on Oct. 14

OpenAI announced that GPT-5.5 will be removed from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex across all plans starting October 14, 2026. The company said users in those products will no longer have access to GPT-5.5 after that date.

According to the announcement, GPT-5.5 will remain available through the OpenAI API Platform and in Codex sessions authenticated with an API key. Users who rely on GPT-5.5 in Codex are advised to switch to GPT-5.6 Sol or GPT-6 Astra.

OpenAI is the company behind ChatGPT and the GPT series of models.
