Nvidia CEO: Chip Sales to Double in 2027, Unsafe AI Products Must Be Blocked

By AI123

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, said at an AI summit hosted by King Charles III in Scotland on Sept. 17 that the company's chip sales in 2027 will double from 2026. He also stressed that AI safety is critical and unsafe products must be stopped.

Huang argued that AI should not be regulated like social media because AI is a technology, not a product. Regulators should target AI products and their specific use cases rather than the underlying technology.

He noted that current AI safety issues mainly involve products that are not yet ready for release. Regulators should continue to watch problems that emerge during AI deployment and introduce new laws when necessary. Since AI is already used in areas such as healthcare, transportation and entertainment, which have existing regulations, not every AI application needs a brand-new regulatory framework.

Huang called for strict testing mechanisms, with products fully validated in controlled test laboratories before public release. When a product is not safe enough, its release should be delayed and engineering improvements should continue, he said.

The summit was attended by representatives from OpenAI and Anthropic. Huang's remarks came as governments worldwide intensify discussions on AI regulation; earlier, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also urged a slowdown in AI development.
