Zhipu Coding Tool ZCode Apologizes Over Code Upload Concerns, Pledges Open Source and Third-Party Review
On September 18, after community discussions about codebase data uploads, Zhipu's coding product ZCode apologized to affected users through an official group and said an internal review had been completed and the issue was fixed.
According to the company, the problem was caused by the codebase indexing feature, which is designed to help users generate local repository indexes to support session checkpoint recovery, version rollback, and Repo Wiki. When generating Wiki pages, the Repo Wiki feature could trigger repository data uploads. Uploaded data was immediately destroyed after cloud generation and was not retained. Because the feature was enabled by default at launch, some users were affected.
To address concerns about data security and product trust, Zhipu said it would open source the ZCode codebase in the near future, invite third-party evaluators to review the system, and continue disclosing review progress. It will also provide all users with an additional weekly quota reset starting September 18.
