Agility Robotics unveils Digit 5 humanoid that powers down when workers get too close

By AI123

Agility Robotics has unveiled Digit 5, its next-generation humanoid robot designed to operate alongside people without safety cages. The 5'11", 284-pound machine uses multiple sensors and onboard AI to track nearby workers. If someone gets too close, Digit 5 stops, sits down, and cuts motor power.

Digit 5 can lift 50-pound loads and reach shelves up to 7.2 feet high. According to Agility, its battery delivers 90 minutes of runtime on a 9-minute charge, enough to support more than 20 hours of work per day. The previous model, Digit 4, has logged over 65,000 hours at sites including GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota. Digit 5 has not yet been deployed; early access is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.

Agility says it has already received more than $300 million in multi-year orders for Digit 5, and its Oregon RoboFab facility could eventually produce up to 10,000 robots per year. The company is moving toward a SPAC merger valued at about $2.5 billion; filings show 2025 net sales of $1.78 million and an operating loss of $140.2 million.
