At the 2026 Apsara Conference held in Hangzhou on September 22, Alibaba Group CEO Wu Yongming said that customer demand for AI is very strong, and the company will fully invest in AI infrastructure construction. He set a goal for Alibaba Cloud to operate more than 20GW of global data center capacity by 2032.

Wu described AI models, AI chips, and AI cloud as the three cornerstones of the machine intelligence era, and said Alibaba will firmly invest in these areas as a long-term strategic choice. He noted that machines now handle 99.9% of physical work, and predicted that machine thinking will expand rapidly to take over 99.9% of thinking tasks in the future. Top-tier thinking would shift from a luxury into a scalably supplied commodity, enabling every niche field to have millions of AI scientists and experts.

Alibaba Group Chairman Joe Tsai also spoke at the conference, saying AI development is moving from technological breakthroughs to large-scale value creation in real-world scenarios. He disclosed that Alibaba is building a five-layer collaborative architecture covering chips, cloud, model services, and agent applications to integrate AI with the real economy. In addition, Alibaba plans to train an AI model with 5 trillion to 10 trillion parameters.
