Barcelona AI Summit 2026 Focuses on Practical Applications
The two-day Barcelona AI Summit 2026 kicked off on September 22 in Barcelona, Spain, with a strong emphasis on moving artificial intelligence from demonstrations to real-world deployment. The venue featured multiple application showcases and interactive experience zones.
Among the exhibits was an AI-powered boxing training system that uses cameras to capture movement trajectories and analyze punch speed, body rotation, and defensive moves to identify weaknesses. Another booth displayed a robot equipped with a language model and speech-synthesis capabilities, capable of conversing with visitors and autonomously navigating with LiDAR while mapping its surroundings.
The summit also released a model comparison report covering factors such as model capability, context window, multimodality, open-weight availability, and cost. DeepSeek and Tongyi Qianwen were included in the discussion of open-weight models.
Attendees voiced appreciation for China's AI development and open-source contributions. Official data cited at the summit showed that China's core AI industry exceeded 1.2 trillion yuan in 2025, with more than 6,200 related companies. Several participants noted that Chinese models including Kimi and DeepSeek have advanced through open-source efforts, and stressed the need for global collaboration while ensuring AI safety.
