Biwin Storage Plans CNY4.5 Billion Third-Phase Memory Packaging Expansion
Biwin Storage Technology said on Sept. 22 it will invest CNY4.5 billion (USD670 million) to build the third phase of its wafer-level advanced memory packaging and testing manufacturing project in Dongguan Songshan Lake High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Guangdong Province. The project will be carried out by its majority-owned subsidiary Guangdong Xincheng Hanqi Semiconductor Technology on the existing base land, with the total investment expected to be fully deployed by the end of 2029. The company said the expansion is aimed at meeting growing demand in the memory market driven by artificial intelligence computing.
Shares of the Shenzhen-based semiconductor memory solutions provider jumped as much as 5.2 percent on Sept. 23, before closing up 2.5 percent at CNY222.69.
The company did not disclose the planned annual capacity or a construction timeline for the third phase. In October 2023, Biwin announced a CNY3.1 billion investment for the first two phases of the base, which use 2.5D packaging technology and have a combined capacity of about 3,000 wafers per month. Phase One has entered customer sampling, process validation, and small-scale trial production, while Phase Two is undergoing equipment installation and commissioning.
Biwin said the new investment is expected to help it achieve breakthroughs in key advanced packaging and testing technologies and enable mass production of multi-chip system-in-package solutions and computing-memory integrated packages. Compared with conventional packaging, 2.5D advanced packaging shortens signal transmission paths, delivering higher bandwidth and lower latency, and supports miniaturization, lower power consumption, and higher integration.
Biwin mainly engages in research, design, packaging, and testing of semiconductor memory products. In the first half of 2026, its operating revenue quadrupled year on year to CNY15.6 billion, and net profit reached CNY7.2 billion, versus a net loss of CNY226 million a year earlier.
