Meta adds FDA-cleared Hearing Enhancement to its smart glasses

By AI123

At Meta Connect, Meta announced a new Hearing Enhancement feature for its supported Meta smart glasses, rolling out later this year. The initial rollout will not include Ray-Ban models.

The software has received FDA clearance and does not require a prescription. Users can enable it through a Meta One subscription or a one-time payment of $149, and a 30-day free trial is available. The feature is also eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement, though users need to coordinate with their insurance provider.

Wearers can activate or turn off the feature at any time using a voice command, such as "Hey Meta, start Hearing Enhancement." Unlike the existing Conversation Focus mode, this new function targets people with mild to moderate hearing loss who would normally use a hearing aid.

Meta also introduced improvements to the Detailed Responses feature on Meta Glasses, based on feedback from the blind and low-vision community, along with new customizable audio and controls.
