DeepSeek Harness Desktop Client Surfaces, Offering Agent Plugins and Voice Input
Although DeepSeek has not made an official announcement, download links for a desktop version of DeepSeek Harness have circulated on social media. Hands-on testing shows the client installs and runs properly, featuring a full GUI that lets users sign in with a DeepSeek account or add an API key, select a local workspace folder, and assign tasks to agents directly.
The client includes six built-in official plugins: agent team, voice input, terminal, agent loop, subagent, and web search. The agent team and voice input plugins are currently marked as experimental. The former supports multi-agent collaboration with team tools and shared task boards, while the latter can use SenseVoice for speech-to-text conversion. The terminal plugin manages local command execution with limits on runtime and output, the agent loop controls how agents iteratively call tools, the subagent plugin allows setting recursion levels and model choices for child agents, and the web search plugin configures DeepSeek's own search provider.
Four working modes are available: Standard for general tasks, PTC for writing small programs to batch-call tools, Minimal for terminal-only operation similar to traditional coding agents, and Creative for building plugins and combining tools and prompts, reflecting DeepSeek Harness's 'Everything is a Plugin' design philosophy.
Previously, DeepSeek Harness only offered a web UI launched via a command line. The desktop client lowers the barrier for non-technical users. Community verification indicates the app is signed with an Apple developer certificate tied to Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd and has passed Apple notarization. It is distributed through the nightly channel, suggesting a candidate build rather than a formal stable release. Linux is not supported at this time.
