White House Says US, China Agree to Use 'Super Intelligence' Instead of 'Artificial Intelligence'
The White House released a fact sheet on September 26 outlining President Donald Trump's diplomatic achievements during Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit, in which the security section said the two leaders agreed to use the term "super intelligence" rather than "artificial intelligence" to describe applicable emerging technologies.
The fact sheet's first section, focused on delivering for Americans, covers topics including the war on drugs, oil supply and the arrival of two giant pandas in the United States. In a section titled "Making the World Safer for Americans," the document states that the two leaders agreed on the terminology change.
According to the fact sheet, U.S. and Chinese representatives will meet in November 2026 to discuss risks and benefits related to "super intelligence." A communications channel will also be established for the two countries to discuss safety-related "super intelligence incidents."
The Associated Press reported that the meeting produced no major breakthroughs, but analysts said expanding communication could help prevent disputes from escalating.
