Marissa Mayer unveils Dazzle, a personal AI assistant that reads your camera roll

By AI123

In September 2026, former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer publicly introduced Dazzle, a personal AI assistant that relies exclusively on a user's camera roll for context. The product raised an $8 million seed round in December 2025, led by Forerunner and others.

Unlike many AI assistants that draw on emails, calendars, or shopping histories, Dazzle builds its understanding of a user by analyzing photos stored on their phone. Mayer said photos are an underappreciated source of information. Dazzle can infer hobbies, food and style preferences, recent trips, and children's interests, then interact through its app or via text to extract calendar details from photos or suggest personalized activities.

Mayer argued users may feel more comfortable handing over photo libraries than granting an AI access to sensitive emails and messages. She emphasized that Dazzle prioritizes privacy and discards personal information flagged as sensitive. The product builds on intellectual property from Sunshine, Mayer's previous startup, whose photo-sharing tool Shine was shut down earlier. Dazzle is now available for trial, and its long-term adoption remains to be seen.
