DoorDash launches AI agent for ordering food via text messages

By AI123

DoorDash announced on September 30 its launch of a text-based AI agent that allows users to place food orders through Apple Messages. Users can send prompts like “order my usual,” and the agent will understand it refers to their regular Friday night order.

The agent can also handle specific dish requests and local recommendations, searching nearby spots, suggesting a cart, and sending photos of recommended dishes. For group orders, it can accommodate mixed dietary preferences and different quantities in a single order.

The company has opened a waitlist for users in the U.S. to try the new feature. With this launch, DoorDash aims to gain an edge over rivals Uber Eats and Grubhub as personal AI agents become more prevalent.
