Reddit to end RSS feeds and public API access, citing AI bot scraping

On Oct. 1, Reddit announced it will end RSS feed support, saying the format has become a common vector for large-scale scraping and automated abuse. RSS is a standardized web feed format that lets users subscribe to site updates via news-reader apps. Reddit said RSS support will cease on Nov. 13, 2026, and public API access will shut down by March 2027.

The API closure will affect tools that rely on programmatic access to Reddit conversations, including social listening products, research tools, and AI products such as AI assistants, which currently use Reddit content to answer questions. For moderators relying on RSS alerts, Reddit recommends migrating to the Discord Relay Devvit app before the deadline. The company said there is no replacement for RSS feeds used outside moderator communities.

The changes come as Reddit has been monetizing its user-generated content through AI licensing deals. In the second quarter of 2026, Reddit reported that non-advertising revenue grew 24% year over year to $43 million. Reddit also said it will restrict access to Old Reddit, citing abusive scraping and automated traffic.
