Microsoft 365 subscriptions: shared AI credits arrive, family storage drops to 2TB

By AI123

Microsoft has announced changes to its Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium, and Pro subscription plans, introducing shared AI usage allowances and a shared OneDrive storage pool. The company said the changes are designed to give subscribers more flexibility with their AI and cloud storage benefits.

Under the new plan, Microsoft 365 Family and Premium subscribers will get a total of 2 TB of shared storage, down from the current 6 TB (1 TB per member). The Pro plan, launched in September 2026, offers 5 TB of shared storage and the highest AI usage limits for $100 per month. Users exceeding the new storage limits may need to reduce usage, migrate data, or pay for additional storage.

For AI benefits, family members will be able to share AI usage credits, and subscription owners can manage AI access for younger family members. Premium and Pro subscribers will have the option to purchase additional AI usage credits.

According to a Microsoft spokesperson, new and upgraded subscriptions include shared storage starting Oct. 8, 2026. Existing subscribers will move to shared storage at their first renewal on or after May 2, 2027, and will be notified in advance.

The change aligns Microsoft's plans with competitors such as Google and Apple, which already bundle shared storage and AI credits. Microsoft previously cut OneDrive storage allotments in 2015 after offering unlimited storage in 2014.
