Microsoft to Retire Copilot Themes in Outlook in October 2026
Microsoft will disable Copilot themes in Microsoft Outlook globally in mid-to-late October 2026, according to a Windows Latest report published on October 13, 2026. The change affects the new Outlook on macOS and Windows, as well as Outlook.com on the web.
Copilot themes, introduced as an AI-powered interface customization feature for the new Outlook, allow users to enter a description or choose preset directions and have Copilot generate a theme that is then applied to the Outlook interface. The feature was previously promoted as a key update for the new Outlook on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Windows Latest suggests the decision to retire it was driven by lower-than-expected user adoption.
Microsoft will also remove the "Wrap up your day" feature, which prompts Copilot to generate a concise inbox summary and display it in the right sidebar. Additionally, the company plans to update Outlook's Copilot experience in October 2026 with a simplified, chat-centric design, along with improvements to navigation, chat layout, and Work IQ controls.
