OpenAI Infrastructure and Compute Chief Sachin Katti Steps Down; Uday Ruddarraju to Succeed
On October 14, Sachin Katti, OpenAI's head of infrastructure and compute, announced his resignation on X. He will be succeeded by Uday Ruddarraju, who was promoted to chief technology officer for compute capacity in early summer 2026. According to sources, Katti is expected to remain involved with the company as an advisor.
Katti joined OpenAI in November 2025 from Intel, where he served as CTO. During his tenure, he led the ambitious Stargate data center initiative and secured compute partnerships with major suppliers including SoftBank, Oracle, and Amazon Web Services.
Ruddarraju, who joined OpenAI in July 2025, previously served as head of infrastructure engineering at Elon Musk's AI company xAI. He was named to his current role in early summer 2026.
Katti's departure is the latest in a series of senior executive exits at OpenAI. In recent months, the company has seen the departures of product and business lead Fidji Simo, senior executive Brad Lightcap, revenue lead Denise Dresser, and head of safety systems David Robinson.
OpenAI President Greg Brockman has said that because the company is in the spotlight, every departure receives unprecedented scrutiny, but he believes the diversity and resilience of the management team ultimately make the company stronger.
