Nvidia CEO says cooperation with China essential to managing AI risks

By AI123

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on Oct. 15, 2026 that it is "absolutely necessary" for the company to work with Chinese AI firms to jointly monitor risks posed by frontier AI technologies.

"We absolutely should cooperate with each other to drive AI development in a safe way," Huang said in an interview with CNBC. He added that collaboration with Chinese AI companies should be achieved through dialogue, and said he has been communicating with Chinese researchers.

Huang described AI as potentially dangerous. AI safety has become a key topic in US-China discussions as both countries weigh how to address the risks of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has previously proposed establishing a bilateral AI safety risk notification mechanism and communication channels to address concerns including out-of-control AI agents, cybersecurity threats and biological threats.
