Amazon to Invest Over €16 Billion in Germany in 2027, Focusing on Cloud and AI Infrastructure
On October 20, Amazon's Chief Global Affairs and General Counsel David Zapolsky announced at the Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin that the company plans to invest more than €16 billion in Germany in 2027, covering cloud computing and AI infrastructure, logistics, low-orbit satellites, and streaming content production. This marks Amazon's largest single-year investment commitment in Germany to date.
Of the total, €4.8 billion will go toward expanding the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) region to meet growing enterprise demand for cloud and AI services. The region has been operating since 2014, and the AWS European Sovereign Cloud went live in Germany in January 2026.
Amazon also plans to open a second robotics and AI research laboratory in Berlin, doubling its research staff. The lab will recruit applied scientists, robotics hardware engineers, software engineers, and systems engineers to focus on improving human-robot collaboration efficiency.
On the logistics front, Amazon intends to complete modernization of delivery centers in Bad Hersfeld, Dortmund, and Werne by 2027, with renovations in Koblenz, Pforzheim, and Rheinberg continuing through 2028. The logistics projects are expected to create more than 3,000 jobs.
Additionally, Amazon will continue investing in its low-orbit satellite internet project, Amazon Leo, to provide high-speed internet access to underserved areas, and plans to launch over 15 local productions for the German market by the end of 2027.
