AMD brings FSR 4.1 upscaling to Xbox Series X/S and Ally handhelds
AMD has announced that its FSR 4.1 (FidelityFX Super Resolution) upscaling technology is coming to Xbox Series X/S consoles and the Ally family of handhelds, including the Ally X, Ally X20, Ally S and the original Ally. The technology renders games at a lower resolution and then uses machine learning to produce a sharper image, aiming to improve performance and visual quality.
Xbox CTO Scott Van Vilet said Microsoft worked closely with AMD to optimize the feature, giving developers another tool for great performance and visual quality. The benefits are expected to be most noticeable on lower-powered machines such as the Series S, Ally S and the original Ally.
No exact timeline has been announced. A video suggests FSR 4.1 could arrive on the Ally X before the end of 2026, while other consoles are listed as "coming soon." Engadget has contacted Microsoft for details.
AMD also said FSR 4.1 will support older RX 6000-series graphics cards and laptops powered by Ryzen AI 9 processors. The technology was previously made available for RX 7000-series cards.
