Google Rolls Out Gemini Personal Intelligence in Android Auto

By AI123

Google announced on October 21, 2026 that it is upgrading the Gemini assistant in vehicles with a new Personal Intelligence feature, which can draw on data from connected Google services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, Maps, and Google Search history to understand user preferences, activities, and past experiences.

The feature is rolling out in two ways: through Android Auto, the app that runs on a user's phone and wirelessly projects navigation, media, and messaging to the vehicle's infotainment system, and through Google Built-in, the software and services integrated directly into the vehicle. It launches in Android Auto starting today and will expand to cars with Google Built-in in the coming months.

Users must opt in to use Personal Intelligence. Once enabled, Gemini can connect information across a user's Google apps; for example, a driver navigating to the airport may be alerted that a flight on their calendar is delayed. Google said the feature also supports complex natural-language requests, such as asking for a flight gate and then immediately asking whether the flight is still on time, with Gemini answering both questions at once.

Google said users retain control over their data, can turn the feature on or off at any time, and can choose which apps to connect.
