EU Launches RAISE Initiative to Mobilize Private Support for AI in Science

By AI123

At the AI in Science Summit 2026 held in Dublin on October 22, 2026, the European Commission launched the RAISE (Resource for AI Science in Europe) pledge initiative, aiming to mobilize private sector and philanthropic contributions to support European researchers working at the intersection of AI and science. The initiative will provide access to models, computing power, data, software, and expertise, addressing gaps left by public funding alone.

The first cohort of pledgers includes the Novo Nordisk Foundation, NVIDIA, Sanofi, Elsevier, Frontiers, Google, and Mistral AI. These organizations will support AI research and deployment to drive scientific breakthroughs, while also building bridges between industry and scientists.

RAISE is part of the European Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in Science, launched in October 2025, which seeks to help researchers unlock the potential of AI and strengthen Europe's scientific and technological leadership. The overall initiative involves more than €5 billion in investment, including €140 million in dedicated funding and €600 million for scientific computing capacity. The pledge remains open to additional contributions.
